Rally2 GR Yaris at Velenje
Five seconds from Rally Velenje 2026, filed under track. The caption credits Ralf Mangertseder and Nico Otterbach in a Toyota GR Yaris Rally2. It names no parts and no work on the car, so the clip is the crew, the car and the event, nothing further.
GR-Four torque split modes
GR-Four is a selectable all-wheel-drive system with three fixed front-to-rear splits. Normal sends 60:40. Sport reverses the bias to 30:70, so the rear axle takes the larger share. Track mode sits at 50:50, an even split. Each mode applies to the same source: the G16E-GTS, a 1618 cc turbocharged three-cylinder rated at 257 hp and 360 Nm in the base GXPA16, in a car with a 1280 kg kerb weight. The split is the driver's choice, not a fixed property of the car, which is why the same GR Yaris can be set up as a front-biased or rear-biased machine depending on mode.
Turbo, intercooler and exhaust changes
The sheet's first item is an ECU remap, which gives large gains in power and torque on the stock turbo. The cost is higher engine stress and possible warranty problems, and early cars already carry reports of cylinder 3 failures and high oil consumption. The upgraded intercooler targets the other documented problem, heat soak on track in hot conditions, where power is reduced. A larger core lowers intake temperatures and holds power steady, but an oversized one adds turbo lag. A downpipe and exhaust make the car louder and support higher-boost tunes. Emissions and noise legality become issues, and the cabin gets drone.
