Toyota GR Yaris: mechanical breakdown
Rally2 GR Yaris on Portuguese stages
Six seconds of a GR Yaris Rally2 at Rally de Portugal, captioned as flat out and on the limit. That is the whole of the evidence: a competition car on a stage, with no parts or events listed. Road-car figures such as 257 hp from the 1.6-litre G16E-GTS do not carry over to it.
GR-Four torque split by drive mode
GR-Four sends drive to both axles, and the split depends on the mode. Normal is 60:40 front to rear, Sport is 30:70, Track is 50:50. The rear bias in Sport means the car rotates on throttle instead of pushing wide, while Track's even split favors traction on a loose or low-grip surface. The load on the coupling is real: the G16E-GTS makes 360 Nm in a car that weighs 1,280 kg, and that torque has to be shared between the axles. Changing mode changes the character of the car without touching the engine.
Remap, intercooler and downpipe trade-offs
Owners start with an ECU remap. It adds large power and torque on the stock turbo, and the price is higher engine stress and possible warranty problems. An upgraded intercooler addresses heat soak, which cuts power on track in hot conditions: it lowers intake temperatures and keeps output consistent, but an oversized core adds turbo lag. A downpipe and exhaust make the three-cylinder louder and support higher-boost tunes. Expect drone, and emissions and noise legality concerns. Early cars also have cylinder 3 failures and high oil consumption on the sheet, so more boost on a track-used engine raises the stakes.
