Toyota GR Yaris: mechanical breakdown
GR Yaris launch in Turkey, 34 seconds
Caption: 'Toyota Gr Yaris Türkiye'de'. The clip is 34 seconds long and tagged with a launch and a track. Nothing else is stated, so there are no parts or modifications to attribute to this car. What it is mechanically: a GXPA16 with the G16E-GTS, a 1618 cc turbocharged inline-three, sending power through a 6-speed manual to the GR-Four all-wheel-drive system.
What iMT does on the six-speed
Gearbox behavior on the GXPA16 comes down to iMT, the rev-matching function of the 6-speed manual. It can be switched on or off, so the driver decides whether the car or the driver's own foot handles the rev match. That choice matters here because the G16E-GTS makes 360 Nm from 1618 cc, and the clutch and gearbox have to pass that torque to the GR-Four system in a car weighing 1280 kg. With iMT off, the shift quality depends entirely on pedal technique. With it on, the matching is no longer a skill question. The brief gives no figure for launch control, so none is claimed.
Remap, intercooler and downpipe on the G16E-GTS
An ECU remap is the usual first change: it adds large power and torque on the stock turbo, but raises engine stress and can cause warranty problems. Heat soak cuts power on track in hot conditions, which is why an upgraded intercooler follows. It lowers intake temperatures and keeps power consistent, though an oversized core adds turbo lag. A downpipe and exhaust make the turbo and wastegate noises louder and support higher-boost tunes. Against that sit emissions and noise legality concerns, plus drone. Early cars already carry reports of cylinder 3 failures and high oil consumption with track use.
