Launch test with a DTE Pedalbox
A 23-second clip of a GR Yaris launching and accelerating. The caption, in Chinese, advertises a DTE Pedalbox and promises a faster start. No other parts are named. A pedal controller changes how the accelerator signal is interpreted, so the same pedal travel asks the throttle for more opening sooner. The G16E-GTS still makes the same 360 Nm; the box changes how quickly the car asks for it. Stock, the GXPA16 does 0-100 km/h in 5.5 s, which is the baseline this clip is aiming to improve on.
One turbo, one intercooler, lag at launch
The G16E-GTS uses a single turbocharger feeding an air-to-air intercooler. On a launch that layout sets the pace: the throttle opens, exhaust flow spools the turbine, and boost builds against a 1618 cc displacement. That gap is what a throttle controller tries to hide, since it opens the throttle further for a given pedal angle. It cannot add boost the turbo is not making. The intercooler is the other limit. It is air-to-air, so it relies on airflow and heat soaks in hot conditions or on track, and the car then pulls power. Repeated launches heat the charge air faster than a single run does.
Mods beyond the pedal controller
The uploader named only the Pedalbox, which is the cheapest change here and leaves the engine hardware alone. Beyond it, the usual first step is an ECU remap. It gives large gains in power and torque on the stock turbo, at the cost of higher engine stress and possible warranty problems. That matters on a three-cylinder with reported cylinder 3 failures and high oil consumption on early cars. An upgraded intercooler keeps intake temperatures down and power consistent on track, but an oversized core adds turbo lag. A downpipe and exhaust make it louder and support higher-boost tunes, with drone and legality concerns.
