Six throttle bodies behind the howl

Each cylinder of the S54 has its own throttle body, so there is no shared plenum between the throttle and the intake valve. Pressure pulses from each intake event travel up a short, dedicated runner and out into the airbox without being averaged by neighbouring cylinders. That is why the sound is induction-heavy and metallic rather than dominated by the exhaust. It also explains the throttle response of a 3,246 cc engine that makes 338 hp and 365 Nm and keeps pulling toward 7,900 rpm. At light load the throttles are barely open and the intake note stays quiet. Open them fully near the top of the range and the howl takes over.

CSL airbox and bearing prevention

A CSL-style airbox gives a stronger induction note from the six throttle bodies, and the trade-off is that it can trigger fault codes without a matching tune. The CSL itself makes 355 hp and 370 Nm, which is the reference most builds copy. Rod bearing replacement is the other common job. It is preventive, aimed at the S54's known bearing wear, and the cost is mostly labour. Rear subframe reinforcement also comes up often. It prevents or repairs cracking in the floor mounts, and it is a labour-intensive job.
