M2: questions owners ask

N55 or S55 in the F87 M2?

The N55 in the base car makes 365 hp and 465 Nm. The S55 in the Competition has 405 hp and 550 Nm, and the CS has 444 hp. For sound, the N55 is smoother and less raspy, while the S55 is harder and more metallic. Both respond to an ECU tune, at the cost of more stress on clutch, DCT and cooling.

Does the G87 M2 have a dual-clutch gearbox?

No. Buyers choose a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed torque-converter automatic. The 7-speed M DCT was an F87 option. The CS is automatic only, so a manual G87 means the standard M2.

What fails on an F87 M2?

On the N55, the plastic charge pipe cracks, especially when tuned; an aluminium pipe replaces it for little beyond the part cost. Oil filter housing and valve cover gaskets both leak. Hard driving or tuning brings heat soak, and an upgraded intercooler is the listed fix.

What is the G87 M2 based on?

A G42 2 Series Coupe is the starting point, with much of the running gear borrowed from the G80 M3. Owners and the press most often complain about kerb weight next to the F87. The fact sheet gives no weight figure, so compare the cars on a scale rather than from spec sheets.
