BMW M2: mechanical breakdown

A 92-second reflector upgrade clip

The caption calls this a 10-minute DIY upgrade of the rear reflector on a BMW M2, and the clip runs 92 seconds. It is filed under Modifications. The brief names no tools, parts or events beyond that, so there is no engine or driving behavior to explain.

Manual or torque-converter automatic, no DCT

The G87 is sold with a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed torque-converter automatic. A dual-clutch was never offered. The two gearboxes also carry different torque figures. After the 2025 update the automatic is rated at 600 Nm with 480 PS, while the manual stays at 550 Nm. The M2 CS goes further: it is automatic only, with 523 hp and 650 Nm. So the highest-output G87 cannot be had with a manual at all. Anyone who wants the 6-speed is choosing the lower torque rating, and the S58 behind either gearbox is the same twin-turbo 3.0-litre six.

Tuning the S58 and what it costs

Software comes first on this S58. An ECU tune gives large power and torque gains on its own, but it can affect warranty and puts more stress on the gearbox and driveline. Downpipes make the exhaust louder and add further gains when combined with a tune; the price is emissions and road-legality problems in many regions. An aftermarket exhaust brings more volume and character than the stock system, with drone at cruise and cost as the downsides. The sheet notes that cabin sound is augmented through the speakers, so exhaust changes only alter what comes from outside the car.
