Nm to lb-ft Converter

Convert engine torque between newton-metres (Nm), pound-feet (lb-ft) and kilogram-metres (kgm), and see how torque and rpm make horsepower.

T-05
500.0newton-metres (Nm)
368.8pound-feet (lb-ft)
51.0kilogram-metres (kgm)

369 lb-ft. Held at 5,000 rpm, that torque makes 351 hp.

Torque and horsepower

Torque is the twisting force at the crank; power is how fast that work is done. Power is torque multiplied by engine speed: hp = lb-ft × rpm ÷ 5,252, or kW = Nm × rpm ÷ 9,549. That is why every lb-ft and hp curve crosses at 5,252 rpm, and why a high-revving engine can make big power from modest torque.

Turbocharged engines usually quote a flat torque plateau (for example 750 Nm from 1,800–5,600 rpm), while naturally aspirated engines peak higher up the rev range. "ft-lb" on US spec sheets means the same as lb-ft.
